On therapy

Where does change come from

A person comes to therapy to seek change, for things in their life don’t quite work. However, the origin, or locus, of change in the therapeutic process remains an open question.

Humanistic psychotherapy places it within a person, a client.

A psychotherapist is a remover of obstacles — a gardener, and not a carpenter.

Provide nourishment, and the dormant seed of self-actualization within each person will know exactly where to grow.

And the genuine I-Thou encounter is at once sun, soil, and water.
